THE EMERGENCE OF SOCIETY

THE EMERGENCE OF SOCIETY

A most important part of human life is his married life.  It also forms a very major portion of his life span.  Let us think a little bit about how the system  of marriage came into human life.  If we believe that god created men and women and then they in turn gave birth to their children and marriage was very much in existence from the very beginning of human race, then  there is nothing to think hard of how the system of marriage came into human life.

Let us think about this in  another manner -  that there was no system of marriage  and family life from the beginning of human race.  But we cannot escape from the fact that sex had an important part in human life.  So there was a sex life in each individual’s life , but that was not like the life we lead in the civilized society.  Sex just happened in each one’s life and there was no emotional bond between the sexual partners.

And in the olden days people lead  a stranded life.  They thought about themselves and nothing else bothered them.  But they were afraid of the animals and natural calamities and slowly they began to depend each other in times of emergencies.  This lead to the necessity of a communal life and they began to live in communes.  When they started to live in communes, they – especially the men - began to compare each others and began to envy others.  Naturally they began to develop a feeling of possessiveness in terms of their sexual partners. Men and women began to like each others as their partners and there was a total chaos in the communes.  This resulted in the development of a social set up and the communes needed somebody to rule them.  Naturally there began a life with certain disciplines and this slowly lead to the family life.

Men began to select women as their life partners and this in turn gave way to the system of marriage.  But even then the married life was not so strong as it is in the present age.  This was because women were ruled by men in the olden days.   Slowly women began to earn a strong position in the society and this made some difference in the married life also.  Women attained a position equal to that of men in this civilized society. Marriage became a very strong part not only in human life, but also in social life.
